The EU referendum on June 23rd is the most important vote for a generation.
Make sure you’re registered to vote by Tuesday 7th of June if you want your voice to be heard!
Or if you’re a UK citizen living abroad you only have until Monday 16th of May
Postal Votes
Consider registering for a postal vote: it’s more convenient! Once on the electoral register you can apply to vote by post instead of in person. You will get an extra two weeks before referendum day to send off your vote. And if you somehow don’t manage to post your vote in time you will still be able hand your vote on the day at your local polling station.
Student votes
If you’re a student please remember to register with your home address as the referendum is at the end of term time! If you are a UK expat, Brit living abroad or an Irish resident in the UK please see the end of this page.
Are you sure you’re on the electoral register?
Many people don’t realise the voting registration system has changed since the last general election so if you previously registered it’s important you contact your local electoral registration office to be sure you’re still registered. And if you changed address or name since last registering you will need to register again.
British Expats can vote if they have been abroad for less than 15 years
Provided you have been included on the UK electoral register within the past 15 years you can still register to vote. If you have been abroad for longer please sign the official petition to end the 15 year voting term for expats.
You can vote if you’re an Irish, Maltese or Cypriot citizen living in the UK
If you’re from Ireland, Malta or Cyprus and resident in the UK you can also register to vote in the EU referendum.
Are you going to be at Glastonbury festival or the European Championship on June 23rd?
If you’re likely to be away or on holiday at the end of June make sure to register for a postal vote so you can vote in advance!
What to do if you’ve lost your national insurance number
You will need your national insurance number to register to vote. You can find this on your pay slip, or on official letters about benefits or tax credits. If you’ve lost it, got to: gov.uk/lost-national-insurance-number
It takes just three minutes to register to vote, less time than it takes to make a cup of tea! Why not do it now?
